The Troy University Choral Department will present their Spring Choral Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Troy.

The free concert features performances by the Troy University Collegiate Singers and the Concert Chorale under the direction of Laura Mixon and Dr. Diane Orlofsky.

This diverse program of choral music features the music of John Rutter, Randall Stroope, R. Vaughn Williams, Moses Hogan, Flex Mendelssohn, Ola Gjeilo and more, said Orlofsky, director of choirs.

“We are, once again, very excited at the wonderful combination of repertoire planned,” Orlofsky said. “Because this concert falls on the Tuesday of Holy Week, we are happy to program music that uplifts, that comforts, that centers on all things eternal, beautiful, poignant and reverent. This concert will be a terrific way to begin the Easter holiday week.”

Orlofsky said the concert will feature works from Alabama composer, Dr. John Ratledge.

“We are excited to present Dr. Ratledge’s works,” she said. “Dr. Ratledge is the director of choral activities at the University of Alabama and we are performing two of his compositions, ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ and ‘Una Lacrima.’ The latter features soprano soloist and Long School of Music faculty member, Dr. Christi Amonson.”

The Spring Choral Showcase is free and the public is “warmly” invited to attend, Orlofsky said.
