William (Bill) Franklin Qualls, Jr.

Qualls, William (Bill) Franklin Jr, 71, passed away February 7, 2013. Bill was a native of Troy, AL and resided in Vestavia Hills and Windermere, Lake Martin. During high school at Troy he was a member of the Beta Honorary Club, played basketball and ran track in state competition. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Auburn University. After graduation he was employed by Union Camp, Inc. in Savannah, GA and Prattville, AL, Irish Engineering, Mobile, AL, Rust Engineering, Birmingham, AL and was later owner of BCA Engineering, LLC Birmingham, AL. He was a member of The Association of Pulp and Paper Industry, and a registered professional engineer in Alabama and Texas. Bill is preceded in death by his first wife, Jimmie Sue, mother and father, William F. (Carolyn Pouncy) Qualls of Troy, AL. Bill leaves behind a loving wife, Jakie Mariani Woodruff Qualls, daughter, Katherine (Howard) Porter, of Auburn, AL, sister Jean Qualls (Jim) Orendoff of Troy, AL, grandson, Tripp Porter of Auburn, AL, stepsons Chivers Richard (Kristina) Woodruff III of Jackson, Mississippi, and Jake James Woodruff of Charlotte, North Carolina, and two step-grandchildren; Bekah and Nate Woodruff of Jackson Mississippi. He is also survived by close cousins Mary (Jess) loving, Susie (Irving) Senn, Jane Segars, Dorothy (Perry) Green, Scherr Douglass Qualls (Gwen) of Troy and Don Qualls (Ann) of Hunstville. He was a member of the Birmingham Dowtowners Club, Birmingham Ski Club, Top Hats Gentlemen’s Dance Club, and actively involved in tennis games at Greystone YMCA, and Brook Highland Tennis Club. Bill enjoyed skiing the black diamond slopes with the Birmingham Ski Club, dancing, golfing, boating, fishing on Lake Martine, and watching Auburn Football (War Eagle). He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and previously was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist and Shades Crest Baptist Churches. Services were held Sunday, February 10 at First Christian Church 4953 Valleydale Road Birmingham, Alabama. Visitation from 2 – 3 P.M with services to follow at the church. In Lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Memorial Fund of the First Christian Church.
