Pierce named preseason POY

Former Charles Henderson High School star Logan Pierce has been named the Sun Belt Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year.

Pierce will make the transition from first base to third base for TROY UNIVERSITY this season after earning first team all-conference honors last season.

The senior batted .341 a year ago with five home runs and 47 RBIs finishing in the top seven in the Sun Belt Conference in eight offensive categories.

Pierce batted .350 as a junior at Charles Henderson with 52 RBIs and was named first team all-area.

As a senior, he was named first team all-state, all-area and all-region and hit .414 with 66 RBIs.

Pierce spent one season at Shelton State Community College where he led the team to the state championship in 2009. He batted .416 with 31 RBIs as the team advance to the Junior College World Series.

Pierce was named Louisville Slugger National Hitter of the Week and Sun Belt Hitter of the Week last season.
