Charles Henderson girls downs Ashford to earn area win

Charles Henderson High School girls basketball team earned a big victory on Tuesday, defeated Ashford High School in an area matchup, 40-28.

The Trojans used a big second quarter to build a 22-15 led at halftime. After scoring just nine points in the opening frame. Charles Henderson tallied 18 in the second period.

The Trojans didn’t stop there, however.

India Blakely came out of the break and drained a three to start a 9-0 Charles Henderson run.

Alexis Jones scored the other eight for the Trojans during the run.

After Ashford pulled back to within nine, 31-22, Charles Henderson used a mix of Jones, Blakely and Asia Reaves to extend the advantage to 36-22.

Blakely finished the night with 15 points for the Trojans. Jones added eight while Taj Brundidge scored five.

Reaves, Joyia Porter and Tyshena Ryles scored four points each.

Ashofrd’s Crisshada Rogers scored a game-high 18 points for the Yellow Jackets.

Charles Henderson will return to action on Friday as they Trojans host Bullock County.

After a weekend break, Charles Henderson will hit the road to face area foe Headland High School.
