Charles Henderson kept pace with the up tempo Jeff Davis Volunteers for three quarters, but could not close the deal and lost its first game of the season Saturday night.

The Volunteers went on a 13-4 to open the fourth quarter to pull away from the Trojans. Charles Henderson would mount a late rally, but it wouldn’t be enough as Jeff Davis headed back north on Highway 231 with a 57-47 win.

Charles Henderson dug itself an early hole by missing its first seven shots from the floor. After the rocky start, the Trojans got on the board when Tyler Mitchell drained a three pointer from the wing.

The teams would trade buckets for the majority of the game, until the Volunteers late scoring run. The teams combined to make 11 three pointers on the night, with Jeff Davis hitting seven and Charles Henderson four.

Mitchell led Charles Henderson with 12 points and Da’Vantez Jackson added nine.

Charles Henderson will play rival Enterprise on Monday afternoon at Betty Wagoner Hall in Troy.
