The Salvation Army of Pike County will host Chamber After Hours from 5 until 6:30 p.m. Thursday and everyone is invited to come see what the Salvation Army is all about.

“There are a lot of people who have never been in the Salvation Army Service Center and Thrift Store and some that don’t even know that we’re here,” said Kim May, director Salvation Army of Pike County.

“We wanted to host Chamber After Hours and invite the people of Pike County to come see our Center and learn more about what we do to serve the people of Pike County.”

May said hopes are that, by visiting the Salvation Army Service Center and Thrift Store, more people will become involved in its work and attune to its mission.

“We have a very nice thrift store that offers affordable clothing, home furnishing, toys and other items year around,” she said.

“We also have a food bank that serves a lot of people all year long. The money that is raised by the Salvation Army stays at home to help people at home.”

May said those who attend the Chamber After Hours will have an opportunity to tour the store and ask questions about the services that are provided by the Salvation Army.

“When people become more familiar with the Salvation Army, I think it will spark their interest and they will be more supportive and more involved,” she said.

The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign is underway and volunteer bell ringers are always needed. Red Kettle bell ringers are already positioned at some spots in Pike County and May said that every little donation can add up to help Pike County families throughout the year.

The Center is also collecting toys and non-perishable food items.

“At this time of year, there is an increased need for clothing, food and assistance with utilities,” May said. “We meet as many of these needs as possible.

The greater the sales at the Thrift Store and the greater the donations to the Thrift Store and the greater the monetary donations, the more good we can do for our friends and neighbors.”

The Salvation Army is located on Brundidge Street in Troy.
