City removing parking spots on Walnut Street

The City of Troy has announced the removal of six parking spaces from a section of West Walnut Street.

The City of Troy will be removing six parking spaces on West Walnut Street and adding spaces to the north of Three Notch Orthodontics.

“Those spaces are dangerous,” said Mayor Jimmy Lunsford. “This arrangement will be much safer.”

At the recommendation of the Troy Police Department, five standard parallel parking spaces and one ADA accessible parking space will be removed from the 100 block of West Walnut Street in front of Synco Drugs.

The city will be replacing the removed spots by adding three standard parking spaces and two ADA accessible spaces in the public parking area to the north of Three Notch Orthodontists located at 202 N. Three Notch Street.

The city hopes the changes in parking spaces will provide a more protected location for the loading and unloading of people visiting businesses in that area.

In addition to the removal of parking spots, West Walnut Street will be a “no parking zone” and “no passing zone” between the buildings housing Synco Drugs and William Burl Key Attorney at Law.

“Once people get used to it, it should be a far superior situation,” Lunsford said.
