Pike County Fair to presale armbands

When the weather turns a little nippy, that means it’s time for the county fair.

Dates for the Troy Shrine Club’s annual Pike County Fair are Oct. 16-20 and the Shriners have a deal for you.

“This year we have a new fair promoter, Mega Midway Entertainment,” said Homer Homann, Troy Shrine Club president. “So, we’ll have a larger midway with new bigger and better rides.”

Homann said a great carnival deal is the armbands, which allow unlimited rides.

“With an armband, you can ride any ride or all the rides all night,” he said. “The armbands are $18 and that’s a tremendous savings. But, we have an even better deal. For those who purchase armbands in advance, the presale price is only $10 and they are good for all nights of the fair. That’s a savings of $8 for each armband.”

The presale armband coupons are available now at the Piggly Wiggly stores in Troy and Brundidge and every Saturday morning at the Shrine Club office on U.S. Highway 231.

The 2012 Pike County Fair will also feature a Creative Living section and all entries should be delivered to the Pike County Fairgrounds from 1 until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 14.

“No entries will be accepted after these days and hours,” Homann said. “Judging will take place Oct. 15.

“We’ll also have a great cattle barn and we look forward to having a good selection of cattle, horses, mules, pigs and poultry. The rules for entering animals are the same as those in the Creative Living section.”

The entertainment pavilion will feature some of the best entertainers around.

Broken Strings and CB the Clown will be on the Midway on Tuesday. On Wednesday night, the Alcazar Shrine Band will take center stage along with Johnny Barron and the Waterfall Children’s Band Showcase. The SheBANG! Cloggers will be featured on Thursday night along with the Mystery House Band. On Friday, Johnny Barron and the Waterfall Children’s Band will return and the Troy School of Dance and Arts will also perform. Saturday night is reserved for the band, Perfection and Grace, which is a big-time band with music for all ages.

All of the entertainment is included in the entry fee of $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 6-1. Gates open each night at 6 p.m.

“The Pike County Fair has something for everyone and for all ages,” Homann said. “We’re encouraging everyone to put the dates, Oct. 16-20 on their calendars and come out and join us at the Pike County Fair, a good time for all ages.”
