Locker room scuffle could lead to arrests
Published 9:28am Friday, August 31, 2012A locker room scuffle after a high school football game Thursday night could land participants in jail, according to Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas.
Not much official information was available Thursday night, but witnesses told The Messenger the fight involved at least two players, two coaches and one parent – all from Goshen - and resulted in minor injuries. One coach was taken to the emergency room.
Goshen principal Dr. Warren Weeks spoke with The Messenger Thursday after the fight and said there would be a criminal investigation and details will be released pending the investigation findings.
The Thursday night game was a face-off between Goshen and Pike County High School. Goshen lost the game, 20-11.

What was a parent doing in the locker room?
Report comment
It’s not what was a PARENT doing in the lockerroom…its what were the COACHES doing to a DEFENSELESS CHILD in the lockerroom….that’s the question of the day!! Those EAGLES were a WINNING team with BART SNYDER…he didn’t NEED anyone to help him handle his boys…he did great without Jordan, & Rigby!!!

I am with Omelas. What happened? The article says something about a coach going to the emergency room. That would make it seem as though a kid or parent was the aggressor.
If that is not what happened, then let us know what did happen.
Report comment
I don’t know why a parent would be in their locker room but I was told WrestleMania XXIX could have been filmed there. Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliot would have a hard time breaking up that rumble.

How stupid can a parent be .
Report comment
Some parents go through hell & high water to protect their children. Its NOT stupid of a parent to take care of theirs…its called parental instincts/rights!! Before you reply to statements, you should gather ALL FACTS!!

The only facts we have are from this article. If something has been left out, tell us what it is. Sometimes the Messenger is a little slow in providing all of the information.
What really happened?

Melgardner, nows your chance to tell your side of the story.

No doubt a parent should protect their child. I don’t know the facts but the parent should have set a meeting with the coach and talked this out coach bart is a great guy and has character. From the looks of the story the parent took matters into their own hands. Goshen should be proud and loud. That’s a great example your community is displaying there.

If the Eagles would have fought harder on the field than in the locker room, they might not have got that *ss kicked. If some of the posters here attended Goshen, then Goshen needs to fire the grammar teachers. Just another example of why the city schools are superior to the county schools.
Report comment
Troy schools are worst than the county schools. They are full of teachers that dont deserve to be teaching. At Goshen Bart Synder cares for the kids. However, I can not say the same for the new coaches hired!
Report comment
If Bart is such a great man then he would never let one of his coaches mistreat a player.
Coaches chew players out when they mess-up sometimes that is just part of football. Some parents can’t stand that and that is why they shouldn’t be in the locker room.I don’t know if that was the case here or not. Some of these people that seem to have been there should tell the rest of us what went down.

So, you think that coaches/teachers should say things to students while hiding behind closed doors that they would not say in front of the parents? THAT is disturbing.

Of course, Sandusky didn’t have parents supevising his contact with kids, either.
“Mountain Man: What do you want to do now?
Toothless Man: [grinning] He got a real pretty mouth ain’t he?
Mountain Man: That’s the truth
Toothless Man: [to Ed] You gonna do some prayin’ for me, boy. And you better pray good.”

Omelas, you are takeing what I wrote wrong, there is nothing wrong with a coach chewing a player out if they mess up,it is just that some parents don’t want anyone else getting on their kids and could over react.
This is nothing like what Sandusky did, your going way over board with that comment.

The only reason a parent would ever be excluded from a classroom or locker room is that someone has something to hide.
From an “innocent” view:
So, what would a coach not want a parent hear them say to their kid unless they were going to curse the kid or be personally denigrating. If a kid messes up, you correct them constructively. If they mess up intentionally, you bench them so they can think about it for a while. There is never an excuse for verbal abuse.
From a more cynical view:
The mentality that allows coaches more power than deciding who plays and when and what plays are run is what enables predators (like Sandusky) to do their thing. Where do you find predators? In schools, churches, day-cares, and rec league sports. Why? That is where the kids are…. As a matter of fact, a local church and the rec department had an issue with this pretty recently with Danny Tripp Freeman abusing 5 underage boys. “When can we understand that a man can be a wonderful mentor and a great teacher and still be a child molester? If these guys had horns and tails, no child would want to be with them and no parents would trust them.”–David Clohessy

Okay I was there, and I guess I’m at least partly responsible for what transpired that night. You see I’m a farmer from way back but these days my eye sight don’t work too good. I mostly rely on my sense of smell to get about these days. I was at the ball game in Goshen when a man came running up to me wanting me to help one of them sows birth her pigs. Well I must have mistaken the locker room for the hog pen and proceeded to go inside to offer my assistance. My smeller hardly ever lets me down.
I was about elbow deep in what I thought was a very troubled mama sow (I later was told that was an offensive lineman) when it all hit the fan! I don’t rightly know what they are teaching them boys in AG class these days but giving a man breathing room when he is trying to assist mother nature in the miracle of life must be way down near the bottom of the lesson plan.

From what I’m ahearin’ ’bout what happened, your smeller didn’t let you down. The talk is that the whole lot o’ them hawgs got involved in that wallerin’.

Nice effort OSP3W. Sounds like a normal date night in Goshen. If you had said “squeal like a pig” the entire team would have assumed the position as that is how Goshenites begin their dating life.

To jack Bauer. You hit the nail on the head. Troy city schools are much better than the county schools. You can play at the lower standard county schools or get in the ring with the big boys over at Charlie high.

This is sad. All schools have their ups and down.
It does sound like the Goshen football program is in serious trouble.
That picture on the article looks like a Goshen jr high play running down the field to make a tackle.

What Goshen needs is some new Ipads and a new cafeteria or to drop a classification so they can be competitive in football. Nevermind, that is just crazy talk.
When that Goshen Eagle flys around the stadium it really fires me up. What is it with rednecks and eagle mascots?

melgardner 82 you got a bit aggitated over the word “punk’ . you must know one or two of thosse punks that started the fight . when are you gonna learn.

My understanding is that the whole thing started with a player being disrespectful and was told to go on the field house. The child and yes, I said child, went and told Daddy and Daddy took offense to it and went to the field house to wait on the coaches. He proceeded to attack and it went downhill from there. No coach was reprimanding the student by being in his face, just said that if was he going to be disrespectful to head on to the locker room. Daddy should have stayed out of it and let his son take responsibility for himself.
To those who say that Charles Henderson is a better school, I disagree. I am a part of both school systems and see good and bad in both. All I can say is that this incident DOES NOT represent Goshen as a whole. Coach Snyder is a good man and cares for each of his players as if they were his own.

Okay. and how did I miss this Breaking News Report/?? I am guessing Karamel and Melgardner are children. Please tell me you are, so we can at least excuse your grammar and obviously immature dialect. 3 words: Stay In School!

Regardless of who was at fault, it is a sad situation when something like this occurs. There is no need to bash one school system or the other, the city schools have their faults just like the county schools do and it all comes back to the parents. If parents were allowed to raise their children and discipline their children when needed, then the children would have respect for authority. If there was a problem between two players, one or both should have been mature enough to go to the coach and settle it that way, but, the choice that was made was not the best choice and now all involved have to pay for their actions. It is only a game, it is not a life or death occurance if you win or lose, the decisions you make in high school, right or wrong will stay with you throughout your entire life. It is time to put your big girl panties on and admit that a mistake was made and take the punishment like a man.
