Former police officer arrested for child molestation

Published 5:08pm Wednesday, August 1, 2012

A recently retired Troy Police officer has been taken into custody after a grand jury indicted him Wednesday on charges of sexual abuse.

Willie Toney is accused of multiple sex crimes against a victim younger than 12 and is being held in the Pike County Jail on one count of first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sodomy and two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, according to the Alabama Attorney General’s Office.

Willie Toney

The case was brought up again this week after being presented to a grand jury at least twice before, with the jury returning no indictments, according to previous stories in The Messenger.

Toney retired last week from the TPD. He served on the city’s police force for more than 18 years – part of that time as a school resource officer.

Toney was arrested by the Alabama Bureau of Investigations and the Pike County Sheriff’s Office. No further information is being released at this time.

Information regarding other indictments handed down by the grand jury this week should be available tomorrow.

We are quick to judge…no one knows what happened but Officer Toney and the 12 yr old. My heart go out to him and his family he’s a good man always lending a helping hand. Let the court find him guilty or not guilty. Sweep around your own front door cause trouble could be under your rug. Now it’s his time and tomorrow may be yours!!!!!

    Monkey,

No one has judged him. U are the only one that commented on this article. Calm down. We are NOT the judge or jury. God is the one in the end ANY one will have to answer too. IF he did it… SHAME on him, if he didn’t he can move on with his life. I personally don’t see him doing anything like this myself, but then again, we don’t see what goes on behind closed doors. So let the courts make the final decision

Robbyn a very good story, well written.I just hope the rest of the story will be everyone that was indicted by the grand jury.Yes a police officer should be held to a higher standards but if the paper reports on one they should report on all that was indicted. But people do not forget indicted is not guilty.

I hope justice is done. If he is innocent, I hope he is found so with sufficient evidence to clear his name of charges that cause the bile to rise in one’s throat.

If he is guilty, I hope the prison issues hime the slipperiest bar of soap ever made.

Now, we will have to wait to see how the facts of the case bear out.

A grand jury indictment means only that when one side of the case was presented with no opportunity to challenge the evidence the DA and investigators were able to convince 12 or more of the 18 grand jurors that a crime had taken place and there was probable cause to believe the defendant committed the crime. This is a strange case in that it has already been presented to two previous grand juries, both of which “no-billed” the presentment. Either new evidence was found (or created) and presented or the current grand jury has a lower standard of probable cause than the other two.
Not wanting to prejudice the case, but, this one has an unsavory aroma.

Observer you are right but the question is has any one ever heard of the grand jury trying the third time to get a indictment, smells a little bit.Wonder who he ticked off.And I still say if if the messenger reports one report them all unless there is someone that the messenger fills just really don’t need to get ticked off?

the man can be innocent for all practical purposes.

my issue is with the photo that has been uploaded to identify who this individual is. its a disrepect to Military Personnel serving this country and its EVEN more DISREPECTFUL to Military Personnel who serve in Airborne Units and Airborne Air Assault Units.

its my observation that sympathy is the ingredient that is sault after in the photo. “No prior military personnel could really moleste a child”. im not saying he is guilty im just saying the photo is unsetteling.

that statement is sarcastic of what the photo is symbolising, at least in ‘MY’ opinion. but to answer your question: No i DO NOT believe that statement!
