Man drowns in pond

Rescuers searched more than 36 hours before locating the body of a Pike County man who drowned over the weekend.

According to a release from the Troy Police Department, the body of David Junior Williams, age 56, of Pike County, was found in Swindall’s Pond at approximately 3:30 a.m. Monday.

Williams was reported missing at the pond around 7:30 p.m. Saturday after a possible boating incident. He was last seen around 6:00 p.m. fishing. His boat was later found floating on the lake with fishing gear inside.

According to the release, Williams was the victim of an apparent drowning.

Members of the Wewahitchka Search and Rescue, CARE Ambulance Service, the Troy Fire Department, TPD officers, members of the Regional Land and Water Rescue of Dothan, Ala., and the Dale County Sheriff’s Department helicopter aided in the search.

“I would like to thank all the agencies and their representatives that assisted in the search for Mr. Williams over the last two days,” TPD Chief Jimmy Ennis said in the statement. “I would also like to express to the Williams family that our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.”
