Updated: Wreck claims life of Troy CPA

Well-known accountant and community leader George Albert Shipman, 57, of Troy died Friday night in a one-vehicle wreck in Pike County

The wreck occurred around 11:20 p.m. Friday about 1 mile east of Banks on Alabama Highway 223. The 2008 Nissan pickup in which Shipman was a passenger failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and struck a tree, according to state troopers.

Pike County Coroner Jerry Williams pronounced Shipman  dead at the scene.

His wife, 48-year-old Lisa Bryant Shipman, was driving at the time. She was taken by ambulance to Troy Regional Medical Center.

Alabama State Troopers are investigating the wreck, and no further information is available at this time.
